Can you Negotiate Storage Unit Prices

Hiring storage for your items when you are moving house, downsizing or heading overseas can be a costly but necessary experience. But knowing your items are safe and secure until you need them again can help make your move or trip a whole lot easier.

When you’re already paying for packersmovers and boxes you might be concerned about how much storage is going to cost as well. Are you wondering how much storage is going to cost and if you can negotiate on the price? Read on to find out more.

Choosing a storage facility

Choosing a storage facility which is right for you can take a lot of time and research. First, you’ll need to figure out the type of storage you’ll need. Do you have delicate or temperature-sensitive items? If so you’ll need to consider a storage facility that offers climate control to properly care for your items. If you’re storing furniture and clothing you’ll be able to find a more cost-effective storage facility to suit your needs.

At Hire Storage, your belongings are stored in secure wooden modules approximately 10 cubic metres in capacity. You can use as many modules as you need to fit your belongings in. These modules are then locked and are typically stacked 3 high using a forklift. Our storage warehouses use state of the art alarms and monitoring to keep your items safe. We use 24/7 CCTV, on-site security personnel and alarms so you can rest assured your belongings are secure while at our facility. We’ll also wrap your items for protection in wrapping blankets to ensure there’s no damage.

How long will you need storage for?

A big factor in your overall storage costs is the length of time you’ll be needing storage for. Whether you decide to store items for one day or for multiple years there’ll be a significant difference in costs. You might not even know how long you need to store your items for at first so it’s important to find somewhere that will offer you flexibility as well as affordability.

Storage costs are generally calculated and charged on a monthly basis so if you want to work out how much storage is going to cost you just multiply by the number of months you’ll need storage for.

How are storage costs calculated?

Storage rates are typically calculated based on the space used and the time your items are stored for and costs are typically generated monthly.

At Hire Storage, our rates start from a low $160 per 10 cubic metre storage module per month (or part thereof). All you need to do is work out how many storage modules you’ll need and how many months you’ll need your items stored for. If you have any large or over-sized furniture, we can also store these separately outside of the modules. There may be a small fee which will be quoted to you when your items arrive at our facility.

If you are looking for short term storage it is important to note that you pay the full month in advance and if you leave within the month you will still need to pay for the full month.

Is that negotiable?

The short answer is no, storage unit prices are not typically able to be discounted or reduced. Prices are set and include services such as security and access. That’s why it pays to do your research before deciding on a facility. Once your items are safely in storage it can be very inconvenient to have them moved again to a different, cheaper facility.

Make sure there are no hidden fees or charges in your storage contract and try to choose the facility that offers the most value for money based on your needs.

We also highly recommend you take out insurance to cover your items while they are in storage which will add to your overall cost. We recommend Carts insurance and you can get a quote here: https://www.removalsinsurance.com.au/html/
