The importance of keeping up on your cleaning

While we live our busy lives it’s sometimes easy to overlook simple cleaning tasks that can save our health and bank in the long run. Simple stains that can easily be removed if quickly dealt with will only become more problematic as time goes by, possibly leaving irreversible damage. So while it may be quite the nuisance to have to deal with certain cleaning situations right away it is imperative. The longer a stain dwells the less chance it has to be removed. This means instead of spending a hundred dollars or so you will now have to replace the damage possibly costing you thousands. This situation applies mainly to carpet but hardwood flooring and tile can also lead to big problems if small cleanings go unchecked.  Luckily there are some things we can do to reduce damage.

Now that more than half the people on the planet live in cities pollution and fine debris can be a real problem. Fine dust and dirt will wear down the grain on your flooring and also slowly deteriorate the fibers on your carpet or rug. This of course is damaging the value of you home but also hazardous for your health. Keeping up on your vacuuming and dusting will help but there are also other strategies to employ. I know it can be annoying for some but always take your shoes off while entering your home. Shoes are known to carry bacteria, toxins and dirt. These are things you don’t want in your home. And if you do live in a city there’s a good chance your walking around with all three on your shoe. This dirt and bacteria can be especially harmful for children whom often put their hands in their mouths and have no regard for germs. Of course less dirt in the house also means less cleaning, a nice perk.

One more important thing to note on cleaning is to always know what you are cleaning with. Never mix unknown chemicals and make sure the cleaning product you are using is safe for indoor areas. Some cleaning agents can be extremely toxic and personally I would rather leave some dirt than to use certain chemicals. Always try and use natural enzymes to lift dirt or even animal urine. Citrus enzyme is the best and most safe and I highly recommend it. It’s organic and much safer than some cheap synthetic spray. Some other safe methods for cleaning spills and stains would be a baking soda paste or some slightly acidic water. Just add some white vinegar to the water and either choose to dab or wipe according to the situation. Always try and blot stains off carpet or upholstery so you don’t spread the initial stain.

Following these tips will help you keep your home a bit tidier and will help keep potential problems at bay. Just remember that fixing a problem early is always cheaper than replacing it down the road.
